Kong Lor Cave is 7.5 kilometres long. The full length is navigated by longtail boat, travelling through enormous underground chambers. The boat trip typically takes around 1.5 to 2 hours to complete both directions.
Kong Lor Cave is approximately 140 kilometres from Thakhek. Our private minivan departs from your hotel in Thakhek at 8:00 AM and takes you directly to the cave, with a stop at the Rock Viewpoint at Phou Pha Marn along the way.
The one-way option drops you at Kong Lor village after the cave visit. From there you can continue independently to Ban Na Hin or join the Thakhek Loop. The round-trip option returns you to your hotel in Thakhek the same evening.
Bring cash in Lao kip for the entrance fees, a change of clothes as the boat can get wet, and a torch or headlamp. The cave is dark inside and headlamps enhance the experience considerably.
Kong Lor Cave can close between June and September depending on the year. Contact us before your trip and we will give you the latest update.
On the far side of the cave is the Natane Valley, a quiet valley of rice fields, traditional villages, and limestone scenery. Your driver will take you to Ban Natane village, where you can walk around, have a drink, and take in the views before the boat brings you back through the cave. It is a very different atmosphere from the tourist side.

Kong Lor Cave, known in Lao as Tham Kong Lo, is a 7.5-kilometre limestone cave carved by the Hinboun River in the heart of Phou Hin Boun National Protected Area. Visitors travel the full length of the cave by longtail boat, passing through enormous underground chambers where the ceiling disappears into darkness above the river. The experience is unlike any other cave visit in Laos.

The one-day tour from Thakhek departs at 8:00 AM and includes a stop at the Rock Viewpoint at Phou Pha Marn, which overlooks the limestone forest of the national park with views stretching to the horizon. The round-trip option returns you to Thakhek the same evening. The one-way option drops you at Kong Lor village, where you can continue to Ban Na Hin or loop back independently.
